Of mother, Never Stop Loving Her. She Never Stopped
Loving You... And That Was Never Easy.
"For all those times you stood by me/
For all the truth that you made me see."
"Because You Loved Me."
Mother was always the secret weapon, the magic talisman. We've known it
through history, but how we've handled this truth makes it clear just
how little progress we've made from our squalid and brutal inception.
Earth Mother, Universal Mother, Cosmic Mother forgive...
"Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum..."
My mother has come to me, just the two of us together, as we had always been together and I have come to count on this over my near 70 years.
She was the first of all, the last of all, her fingers in my hair, a pledge
she would return and abide forever and everywhere.
Oh, how I miss her so... for, you see, infuriating though she could be,
she made me laugh and that was the happiest gift of all. Her smile,
never automatically given to anyone, was always given to me,
to pull me up, hold me hard, push me higher and higher, never easy,
never to be casually regarded, never taken for granted.
"You're the one who held me up/ Never let me fall/
You're the one who saw me through it all."
How could I ever forget... how could any of us? Forgetfulness is the
greatest sin of all, the saddest, raw tears testament to its severity, for
which there is no pardon; the power of eternal regret diminishing us
into the unending winds of oblivion; winds that leave us with nothing,
nothing except love... the only thing worth anything.
"I'm everything I am/Because you loved me."
That has always been enough... and I'm grateful every day of my life, her
world-changing gift to me, in me, for me; through me for the great world
beyond.
