It all started when I was 50. I wrote an article that was a summing up of my life to that point. Somewhat to my astonishment, the response to this article was substantial and positive. People understood that it takes a certain kind of courage to expose yourself to the public, unflinching, truthful, honest, with complete integrity. In short, a higher degree of honesty than we expect in our daily life.
Thus, for the last 20 years I have come annually before the public in this fashion and said "Here I am, here's where I have been, here's where I think I am going."
In the Autumn days of life in which so many find so little to be grateful for, I am blessed by the ability to see even a minute quantity of beauty and love in many things. Thus God opened the door to some happy days and fulfilling. I use them sparingly, for I know they are few in number and have a heavy task, no matter how much more time I have or do not have.
Thus, I am comforted by what I see and do while others bemoan their fate, and think only back, never forward to the new horizon.
This is for you. Let it help you find peace and joy, even in a world as turbulent and unpromising as ours, where there seems to be no conclusion to the dread circumstances so near at hand. Love however sustains me, and the people I will share it with fortified with goodness. And that is why I reach out to you, for in so doing, I embrace you, and thus the possibilities for a still radiant and defiant ambiance.
Let our motto be "Vivat!" A declaration, a proclamation, now and for the remainder, however long that may be. Yes, "Vivat!"
